Open the main menu and choose to host a lobby. Share the six-character join code, or invite friends from the Epic or Steam overlay. Friends on either store can join, and everyone's character appears in the lobby before the run starts.
Yes. Volstead supports crossplay between the Epic Games Store and Steam, up to four players per lobby.
The host does. The host chooses a save or starts a new one, and the crew travels into that world together. Your own progress is stored per player inside the host's save, so you pick up where you left off the next time you join that save.
Yes. Solo uses the same flow as co-op with nobody invited. You can hire NPC hands for the stations you are not using. They work slower and make mistakes, but solo is never a punishment.
Check that the code is six characters and that the host's lobby is still open. Codes never contain the digits 0 and 1 or the letters O and I, so those are always typos. Make sure you and the host are on the same game version. If it still fails, try an invite from the Epic or Steam overlay instead.
Yes. Full controller support, or keyboard and mouse.
Saves are stored on your PC in the game's local save folder (folder name, for example %LOCALAPPDATA%\Volstead\Saved). Cloud saves are not supported at launch, so back that folder up before reinstalling Windows.
